Mar 21, 2006 I know pre garcia sako's were mfg 1959=1971. I also know Garcia guns say imported by Garcia and apparently Stoeger imported after Garcia. Also Firearms international apparently imported some pre Garcia guns. Does anyone know what serial number range the Pre Garcia guns were in?
- Apr 10, 2011 The SAKO Wolfs head. I've seen lots of these rifles of this era and thee pre Garcia guns marked BOFORS Steel are often sold at a premium. The barrels are very good cold hammer forged as are all SAKO's and excellent shooters. I've owned 341 SAKO rifles since 1972. Have all the serial numbers recorded and info about each one. Not many pics though.
- Jun 13, 2014 Sako serial numbers are a disaster after 1968 and jump around pretty indiscriminately due to the different importers (Firearms International, Garcia, Stoeger). In late 1968, Firearms International (FI) began importing Sako's until the end of 1971. Those barrels had 'Firearms International, Wash. Etched on the underside.

I picked up a complete Sako L-579 barreled action in the white in .243 Win. The serial number is thre digits: #190. The receiver top isn't tappered. Looks Like Mauser action to me. The barrel appears to be new an dated 08/02/83 and PMK on the underside of barrel. Is this a decent action for a buid if the current barrel turns out to be a dud? Barrel looks like a standard Sako sporter tapper. Also, where can I get a decent wood or synthetic stock? Thanks--Pat.
I've added some pic's. Can anyone give me some history relative this barreled action? Thanks. Pat.
